Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Museo della Terra Pontina for its rich historical documentation and the exceptional, free guided tours provided by passionate volunteers. While the inconsistent opening hours and difficulty in contacting the museum are noted drawbacks, the overall experience is highly valued, especially for its insight into the Pontine Land reclamation. "Unfortunately, the opening hours do not correspond to those stated on Google maps, nor to those stated on the museum website. In order to book a visit, the mobile phone number given was not useful, because no one answers. We will try again, perhaps, tomorrow ….

… we returned the next day and we really appreciated this museum for the wealth of documentation and for the fact that we were accompanied by a guide who volunteered. Furthermore, entry is free and the management is handled by an association of volunteers. So well done, very well done. Overall rating would be 5 stars, but given the experience of the previous day we stop at 4."

"Very interesting and worthy of funding.
As soon as we arrived in Latina on 09-11-24, after parking the car in the side street, we visited the Museum of the Pontine Land, housed in the historic building of the Opera Nazionale Combattenti, located in Piazza del Quadrato. The Museum recalls the historical memory of the Pontine territory and five rooms are equipped with the original documentation relating to the reclamation of the Pontine countryside and the subsequent development of Latina which took place in the first half of the 20th century. The exceptional guide, Mrs. Mirella, accompanied us and explained with great meticulousness (perhaps too much) all the details of each image on the walls and in the rooms, telling us the story of the reclamation of Latina. The director of the Museum then joined us and accompanied us upstairs, showing us much more and finally we went into the external garden to see some agricultural tools from the time. Some photos will partly illustrate the museum but we recommend everyone to visit it also because it is completely free. Don't forget to sign the register at the entrance so as to certify your presence and ensure that, one day, they can have funding to cover the many expenses involved. We congratulate the director and Mrs. Mirella for their commitment.
Greetings from Roberto and Lucia from Sant'Anastasia (Na)"

"Entrance is free, I recommend a visit for tourists and local history enthusiasts.
You will be escorted throughout the museum by a guide who will tell you everything you need to know, it is forbidden to take and attach photos given the historical period is not particularly flexible to discuss.
The Museum of the Pontine Land is dedicated to the history of the reclamation of the Agro Pontino.
Located in Piazza del Quadrato, the museum tells the story of the transformation of the territory from swamp to arable land through photos, models, documents and tools. Sometimes it also hosts temporary exhibitions and educational workshops.
It is an important place to understand the identity and historical memory of the area."
