What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Porticato Brignardello for its unique historical legend and architectural charm, noting its role as a venue for local events. While entry is free and the views from the terrace are appreciated, some mention that its primary appeal lies in its story and event potential rather than extensive attractions.
"A beautiful portico runs from the road to the cemetery, bordering the basilica's parvis without passing through it. It was financed by the patron of the same name, who did not want to pass through the church before entering the cemetery."
Eduardo Antonio Molinari Novoa
"Just to the left of Piazza Marconi, where the Basilica of Santo Stefano stands, stands a beautiful work commissioned by the wealthy Nicola Brignardello, who left a quarter of his estate, created in Chile, to build a portico with a terrace above for public use.
Legend has it that the well-known Lavagna native wanted to create a passageway that would allow him to reach the cemetery without having to pass in front of the Basilica of Santo Stefano, and so he erected this portico.
Construction began and ended between 1894 and 1898.
The portico has one entrance to the south and two to the east. The portico space is currently used for cultural events such as concerts, performances, exhibitions, and food and wine events. It certainly complements the square and makes it even more beautiful. It's definitely worth seeing when you're in Lavagna. Highly recommended. Thank you
