What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Grotta Manaccora is widely described as a neglected and abandoned Bronze Age archaeological site. Visitors are deeply disappointed by the extensive litter, vandalism, and the cave's closure, which overshadows its historical significance. While the potential for a valuable historical discovery is evident, the current reality is one of decay and disrepair.
"This place should be preserved
All I saw was filth inside a grotto so big and overwhelming
Italians do many things right but totally ruined this place
If there’s no money to be made
Italians now disregard it
No one picks up their rubbish
It’s becoming like Asia
BTW , the grotto was closed to public except for the broken down gate at the entrance
Go in , and you actually feel sorry that it was ever discovered .
Fix it"

"The problem isn't just that the cave is closed and completely abandoned (it's not a temporary closure, but definitely permanent). The real problem is the incredible amount of garbage on the ground and everywhere on the beach, a disgrace I've never seen before. You can also enter the nearby cave, but the stench and the garbage make it an experience you shouldn't do. It's embarrassing that the city administration doesn't clean up or put out bins to discourage incivility."
Elisabetta Sbandi
"A devastation and a waste of public money, then thrown down the toilet.
In a state of abandonment despite the importance of the Bronze Age site and the archaeological excavation inside, which is still visible (traces of ancient hearths and bones)."
