The unique blend of history, culture, and architecture makes it a highly recommended half-day excursion, though the castle's many stairs require good mobility.
"Definately worth a visit, this museum is really interesting and beautifully curated. There are fabulous pieces of art dotted all around and every space is utilised really well. Even if you're not hugely into mountaineering, the museum itself is so well designed that there's enough there for everyone.
You can walk along the walls and up the towers, but be advised that you would have to be ok climbing as there are a lot of steps, and there's a bit of a rough path to walk from the carpark.
There's also a lovely cafe in a pretty setting. I would highly recommend the museum as it was a half a day well spent ."

"Wonderful museum set in an ancient castle high above Bolzano, Italy. Dedicated to European and Himalayan mountaineering occluded those who pioneered the various forms and those who lost their lives along the way. The museum also includes a huge amount of Buddhist and Himalayan art with its definitely worth seeing. It cost us €30 for two adults and we spent approx two hours there."
