Here you can admire the Miraculous Crucifix of St. Papino, which, carried in procession on April 15, 1798, inexplicably wept due to a severe drought. The air immediately filled with clouds and it rained for three days, while people and the countryside were brought to their knees by famine and lack of water. The linked page cites the documents. The crucifix was created by a friar, Umile di Petralia, who died in the odor of sanctity. There is a canvas on the high altar depicting, among other things, the martyr St. Papino, which the Catholic Church shares with the Orthodox Church. This fascinating and mysterious church is a worthy pilgrimage destination."

"The church of the Holy Crucifix, initially dedicated to San Papino Martire, ancient patron saint of Milazzo who guarded his relics, houses within it a miraculous work which Fra Umile da Petralia created in the two-year period 1632 - 1633, the tearful effigy on 15 April 1798 before the eyes of the people of Milazzo, has stupendous marble altars and noble tombs in polychrome marble and It has a stupendous baroque wooden main altar and houses a seventeenth-century canvas attributed to Onofrio Gabrieli which depicts the Immaculate Conception with Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Francis of Assisi, the Apostles Philip and James and Saint Papino in knight's dress because he was invoked, at that time, as the staunch defender of Milazzo from pirate incursions."
