What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Church of Sant'Agostino for its stunning interior art, particularly the works by Caravaggio and the beautiful 15th-century frescoes. However, the unpredictable opening hours, managed by volunteers, can be a significant drawback, often requiring multiple attempts to gain entry.
"This church is located on Montefalco's main street, which leads to the main square. Built in 1285 in Gothic style, the church features a simple yet beautiful façade of white and pink stone. A fine splayed portal leads to the interior, which consists of a central nave and a single side aisle, the result of a later addition. The overall view is beautiful, with a large arch in the background framing the raised altar with a polygonal apse featuring striking, strongly relief ribs and three stained-glass windows. Several walls contain portions of frescoes that undoubtedly once adorned the entire church. Worth mentioning are the most beautiful, such as the 15th-century depiction of the Coronation of the Virgin and a Madonna and Child. The high altar houses an interesting Renaissance wooden crucifix. It was not easy to find the church open; we had to pass by several times. According to information received from nearby shopkeepers, the church's opening and closing times are managed by a volunteer, so regular opening hours are not guaranteed."
