What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the authentic Tuscan dining experience at Osteria Antico Travaglio, praising the delicious handmade pasta, flavorful meat dishes, and friendly, attentive service. The charming setting overlooking the medieval piazza is a significant draw, making it a memorable stop for many. Some found certain pasta sauces a bit dry, but overall, the food and hospitality are highly celebrated.
"I made reservations ahead of time which was needed since they were very busy. It was the weekend and the whole piazza was full of people.
We started with Tuscan prosciutto and mozzarella di bufala. It was great!
Then we got a pasta dish each. I got the pappardelle with cinghiali (wild boar ragu) unfortunately the sauce was extremely dry and didn’t have that strong flavour of cinghiali that I’m use to when I go eat this dish in other parts of Italy. But I added some Olive and and extra cheese to make it less dry.
The other pasta dish was their pasta Pici that is famous in Siena region with breadcrumbs and pancetta. That was super tasty, reminded me of a similar dish in Molise they do with breadcrumbs.
The prices seem fair, there was a 3€ cover per person.
We decided not to have dessert or seconds as we wanted to see if what other restaurants had to offer.
I have to add the staff were all
Super welcoming and friendly."

"A Memorable Tuscan Meal at Osteria Antico Travaglio
We had an unforgettable dining experience at Osteria Antico Travaglio, perfectly situated overlooking the charming square of Monteriggioni. After reading glowing reviews, our expectations were high and they were completely exceeded.
We began with the Antipasto Toscano, a generous and delicious selection of local cured meats and cheese that set the tone for the meal. For mains, we tried the Pappardelle al ragù di Chianina, which featured perfectly cooked pasta with a rich, slow-cooked sauce made from the prized Chianina beef. The Cinghiale alla cacciatora (hunter’s wild boar) was deeply flavorful, hearty and slow-cooked to perfection, especially with the white beans (add in onions if you like) recommended by our attentive and patient server; an excellent pairing. The Trippa alla Fiorentina was also a standout, cooked in true Florentine style with tender tripe and savory tomato sauce.
We ended the meal simply with a caffè, soaking in the peaceful view of the medieval piazza.
The food was authentic, flavorful, and made with care. The service was warm and knowledgeable. As a lovely gesture, our server even gifted us a postcard to remember the visit. The reviews were absolutely right. Highly recommended - an absolute gem in Tuscany!"
