Reviews Summary
The Naples Ferry Terminal is a convenient gateway, praised for its proximity to the city center and stunning views of Mount Vesuvius. However, visitors must be wary of taxi scams and the challenging terrain at nearby attractions like Pompeii. Planning transportation and excursions carefully is key to a smooth experience.
"The cruise port is nice with many shops. It is very close to the city, and you can walk out of the port directly to the taxi parking lot. The view of Mount Vesuvius, when you sail in and out of the port, is magnificent."

"TAXI SCAM! Beware of "David Tarintino", a taxi driver who significantly raises the price at the end. He quotes us $20 Euros per adult. We had 3 adults and 3 little ones, from the MSC cruise terminal to Pompeii "round trip." which is only a 25 minute drive. At the end, he asks for $200 because he "waited" for us. We didn't ask him to wait. We had told him our tour time from beginning to end at the start. He said ok that's fine. I pulled out my credit card and showed him at the beginning. I asked if card was ok, he said yes, yes, sure, card is fine. Then he acts surprised insists on cash only at the end of the trip. He wears glasses black round frames, a grey coat and drives an older model white taxi cab. Don't take a cab right out of the terminal. They will rush you immediately. Wait, walk past them. Take a bus or pick up a taxi just a few blocks away from the cruise terminal to get to Pompeii for much less. Pompeii doors close at 6pm on a weekday, you only need 2-3 hours, book a Viator tour beforehand. Don't bring a stroller, harness your little ones. They have a luggage check in at the ticket both but would not let us leave the stroller. We had to take our stroller on the tour and it was extremely inconvenient, the roads are made of large uneven stones that are difficult to roll over. Also, don't take a taxi into the "Centro" part of Naples, it is only a 15 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants from the terminal. Get pizza in Naples. It's inexpensive and delicious. We were on the MSC Fantasia coming from Spain and stopping in Naples for six hours on an early January 2024 cruise. Beware and enjoy!"

"BEWARE OF TAXI SCAM!
They stand outside the port and pray on people coming off the ferry. He first told me he doesn’t take card which illegal ALL TAXI MUST TAKE CARD BY LAW. Then he agreed $20 so I went but at the end charged me $35 and wouldn’t give me a receipt."

Navigating Taxi Scams and Transportation
When considering transportation, remember that the historic center of Naples is very walkable from the port, making it an excellent option for exploring local shops and restaurants without needing a taxi. For island excursions, ferries are the primary mode of transport, and checking schedules and booking in advance is a good strategy, particularly during busy periods.
Day Trips from Naples Port
For a different kind of escape, the islands of Capri and Procida are easily accessible by ferry. Procida, in particular, is highlighted for its beauty and can be reached in about 35 minutes by ferry from Naples. Capri offers stunning coastal scenery and charming towns. When planning these trips, always check ferry schedules, as they can vary by season, and consider purchasing tickets in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak travel times.
Photography Opportunities
Beyond the volcano, the bustling port itself offers dynamic scenes of maritime activity, ferries, and cruise ships. For those venturing into the city center, the vibrant streets, historic architecture, and, of course, the famous Neapolitan pizza provide ample subjects for capturing the essence of Naples. The proximity of the port to these urban landscapes makes it easy to combine scenic views with cultural exploration for your photo collection.
