Some find parking challenging and note that certain areas can become crowded during peak times.
"A jewel that charms as much by its natural site and its heritage as by the serenity of the place. At the edge of Lake Orta, less touristy than its neighbors, the town preserves its narrow streets with wrought iron balconies and its beautiful seigniorial residences, from the 14th to the 18th century.
His name comes from the Latin Hortus conclusus, which means a closed garden. Therefore, a very appreciated place of romantic minds, the town is developing through a characteristic tangle of small cobbled alleys, often bordered by old stone walls and its small squares are animated by the presence of craft shops, antiques of antiques and picturesque bars.
The church of the Maria Assunta, dating from the 15th century, enjoys a superb view of Lake Orta, an ideal setting of many marriages and its granite staircase leads to Piazza Motta, the main square of the town. The descent is made between two wings of houses lined with 16th century frescoes and led to this place in which the Palazzo Della Comunità dating from 1582 is located, was the seat of the executive and legislative powers of the region's self -management time, and from which two old streets go lately, leading to Moccarolo and the villa. The Moccarolo district, located in the southern part of the village, consists of an elegant succession of villas and small palaces all with small but lush gardens located by the lake."
Enjoy life
"Charming old town with narrow streets and lots of restaurants, ice cream and shops. There is access to the island from the town. The fare is 5 euros per person one way, the ride takes a few minutes. It was very hot during our visit, so we took advantage of the access to the lake and refreshed ourselves from one of the smaller beaches in town."

"Arrive by boat to the main square, directly to the left and up is the path leading up to the church and to the area with the various small chapel's. It's quite a steep path up so take care if it's a very hot day. Quick note, the public toilets are about 50 yards up on the left. Once you have visited the church drop back down to the square, when facing the lake turn right down the narrow street to check out the restaurants and food shops and bars. Or turn left to the more commercial area with shops."
