Reviews Summary
The Passetiello Path is a highly challenging but incredibly rewarding hike on Capri, offering stunning panoramic views. While the trail is steep and requires some rock climbing, experienced hikers find it exhilarating. The main drawback is the difficulty in finding the trailhead and the demanding nature of the path itself, making it unsuitable for beginners or those with health concerns.
"This hike was INCREDIBLE and very challenging. Wanted to leave a review because I had to use 3 maps to find the trailhead. After a few false starts, we finally entered on the right path through this way: Take a bus or cab to the Capri stop, near the Ospedale Capilupi hospital. Walk towards the hospital along Via Torina (the street to the left of the hospital if you are facing it). You'll walk along a small cobblestone street and up some stairways, and start to see signs for the "Sentiero del Passetiello." As others mentioned, once you are on the trail (in the woods), you'll see red trailblazers leading the way. The hike is very steep but also shaded. Definitely bring water! Close to the top you have to rock climb a little bit, but you don't need any equipment, just good shoes and some arm/leg strength. The view is STUNNING, 360 degrees of the entire island. It was euphoric up there. To come down, we used the All Trails map which showed us that we were actually quite close to Monte Solaro, so we walked in that direction, by the Eremo di Santa Maria di Cetrella church, and took the chair lift down. That said, you could also access the summit from Monte Solaro instead of climbing through the steep forest trail, if you take the chair lift up and then use All Trails to guide yourself first to the church and further in that same direction to the summit. This hike is super challenging and (in my opinion) not for those with low endurance or any health conditions. 10/10 recommend if you're up for it!!"

"Very challenging walk with some parts extremely steep and requiring chains to aid going up or down. Plenty of red dots painted at frequent intervals to guide us along the route. Not for the inexperienced or faint hearted but amazing views so totally worth it! Only issue to note were the metal bars protruding from the ground, possibly to act as hand holds or keep rocks in place, that could also make an injury from a fall more problematic…"

"Hiking trail with stunning views. If you're an experienced hiker or like challenges, this is a great hike! Unlike other paths you may take up the mountains of Capri, this one does not have stairs, but mostly consists of narrow forest paths of rocks and dirt.
As to the difficulty of the hike, whether one goes down or up, I'd say the path itself is highly demanding. My friend and I who descended this trail are seasoned hikers from Norway and we both still found it particularly challenging. It has certain extremely steep parts where you need to be very careful not to slip, as well as one or two places where you actually need to climb. Still, if you're up for hike of a slightly higher difficulty, I'd definitely recommend this trail (:"
