Reviews Summary

The Path of the Gods is overwhelmingly praised for its absolutely insane, unforgettable, and breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. Hikers consistently describe it as a highlight of their trip, with spectacular scenery at every turn. While the hike itself is manageable for many, the descent via stairs to Positano is noted as particularly strenuous.

"Absolutely insane. You have to do this. Start in Agerola (love the cafe nearby the start of the hike).

The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) from Agerola is an unforgettable experience. Starting in Bomerano, the trail offers breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast, with dramatic cliffs and terraced hillsides. The hike is moderately challenging, with rocky terrain and some elevation changes, but the panoramic vistas make it worthwhile. The trail is well-marked, and along the way, you’ll encounter charming spots like Nocelle, where you can enjoy a refreshing lemon granita. Descending to Positano involves numerous steps, so be prepared for a workout. Overall, it’s a must-do for nature lovers visiting the Amalfi Coast."

"This was our favorite hike while we were in Italy. The views are spectacular! We started our walk from Bomerano. Beautiful little Alpine style town. We're 65 years old and handled the walk well. The trail is well marked and you'll have plenty of company on your walk."

Patrick Sullivan

"The 3.5 mile hikes itself is difficult, but not too difficult, I wouldn't suggest it to someone that's not fairly comfortable with ups and downs on uneven surfaces.

If you end on the Pasitano side I recommend taking the path up to the parking lot and taking the public bus down. It's cheap, hot, and sweaty but only takes 20 mins.

If you take the stairs down be prepared for a very strenuous walk down. The stairs were far more taxing than the hike, our legs were completely gone by the end, then it's a 30 min walk on the road to Pasitano."

The Myth and Meaning of the Path of the Gods

The name 'Sentiero degli Dei' (Path of the Gods) is steeped in mythology, drawing inspiration from Homer's Odyssey. Legend has it that this elevated path was trodden by the gods themselves as they rushed to save Ulysses from the Sirens, whose enchanting songs were said to emanate from the nearby island of Li Galli.Instagram+1 This ancient connection imbues the hike with a sense of wonder and timelessness, making it more than just a scenic walk but a journey through myth and legend.

Today, the path offers a tangible connection to this mythical past, with its dramatic cliffs and sweeping sea views evoking a sense of the divine. The experience of walking high above the coastline, with the vast expanse of the Tyrrhenian Sea stretching out before you, can indeed feel otherworldly. It's a place where nature's grandeur meets ancient tales, creating an unforgettable adventure for those who traverse its course.TikTok+1

The trail is well-marked, ensuring you can navigate it with confidence.Reddit

From Nocelle, you have two main options to reach Positano. The first is to descend the approximately 1,700 steps that lead directly into Positano. This is a strenuous but direct route that will test your leg muscles.InstagramReddit Alternatively, and often recommended to save your legs, you can take a local bus from Nocelle down to Positano.
