"Trotsburg Castle, a majestic fortress guarding the entrance to Val Gardena and the Isarco Valley, has stood for centuries as a silent witness to history. Built in the 12th century and expanded over time, it became the residence of the Counts of Wolkenstein-Trostburg. Today, visitors explore its richly decorated interiors, including a chapel with painted wooden ceilings and frescoes. The castle hosts a museum dedicated to South Tyrol’s noble residences and fortresses, featuring detailed reconstructions and models. Guided tours offer insight into its legacy, with Teresa, the resident caretaker, continuing her family’s generations-long service to this remarkable cultural landmark."

"Trostburg castle is a great place to explore. We enjoyed the short walk up from the parking area. The grounds are well kept. Goats, chickens and a few horses. The tour was great. Not in English but we received a helpful package with a description and photo of each room within the castle. A great price for such a lovely experience."

"An absolute must!
Lucas our guide was very cheery, spoke clearly and happy to answer questions.
The castel is well worth the price of entry and the 25 min walk up.
I do not recommend parking near the structure as it is not official, crowded with lazy visitors who do t want to walk and when full (there are only 15-20 invented spaces) near impossible to get out of. And don’t even think about it in a rainy day. The mud will trap the car and the terrain is so steep, if you are not confident or competano you could drive or slide off the side of the mountain."
