Reviews Summary

Reviews for Parco Zoo della Fauna Europea di Poppi are mixed, with some visitors finding it run-down and others praising its unique, peaceful sanctuary-like atmosphere. While concerns about enclosure sizes are noted, many appreciate the focus on native European wildlife and the beautiful Tuscan setting, making it a worthwhile stop for a quiet picnic or an unusual wildlife encounter.

"Very run down and in a complete state of disrepair. Old farming equipment and nettles everywhere. Half the animals are donkeys and wild rabbits!
That being said, my kids and I had an exiting afternoon. We were pretty much alone in the park, which gave it an eerie atmosphere. At any moment we expected Tyrannosaurs and wolves to jump us! Unfortunately we did not see any of the expected wolves - and the bear apparently died in 2022.
In my opinion the birds of prey had too small enclosures, but we saw no animals in distress.
It could become a much better attraction with some investment and hard work. But if you are the area, and in need of a picnic spot when give it a try."

"I was dubious about coming because there is only a three star review on Google but we went anyway and I’m so glad we did. It’s a lovely place in a beautiful part of Tuscany with big green areas, open spaces to picnic and plenty of benches throughout. There are lots of animals to see, a play park and a bar/ restaurant. All of the animals look very well looked after and healthy, which was a huge relief for me after some of the horror wildlife parks I’ve seen in the past. The staff were friendly. I would recommend it."

"Poppi zoo is an excellent spot to see some local wildlife in a lovely setting. We almost didn't come since the ratings are so mixed, but so glad we came - this is a hidden gem that definitely deserves much higher ratings. Looked almost abandoned at first, but as we walked past the donkeys, we started seeing everything from lynx to owls and much much more. We paid for our ticket on the way out meeting the owner Monica, who is obviously very passionate about her animals. The highlight was coming face to face with wolves.
PS: highly recommend quirky Osteria del Tempo Perso in nearby Poppi if you need a meal."
