"The Edicule of San Gerardo, colloquially known by the people of Potenza as "San Gerardo di Marmo," is a small temple located in Piazza Matteotti. Inside, it houses a statue of the saint of the same name, the city's patron saint. According to an inscription on the right side of the saint, the edicule was built in 1865 by the Potenza-born sculptor Antonio Busciolano (1823-1871) or his brother Michele (1825-1894).
The edicule reproduces the façade of a domed building, called "La Machina," which was erected in the square—on the feast day of the patron saint—as a backdrop for the band's performances. The structure has a semicircular plan, closed at the back by a continuous wall. Five fluted columns rest on a stepped base, supporting marble architraves decorated with cherubs and roses in relief.
