What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hotel Forum is lauded for its unbeatable location overlooking the Roman Forum and its stunning rooftop bar views. Guests appreciate the excellent breakfast and friendly evening staff. However, some rooms are noted as dated, and there have been isolated incidents of poor service and questionable advice regarding ticket bookings.
"The following is my experience using this hotel
1/ the buffet breakfast is fantastic. Very balanced and you can fill up for the day. Coffee included . The tables are not busy at all when it opened at 7am, had a lovely private terrace with. View to eat and do some work. Highly appreciated .
2/ the rooms are a good size for Rome, they are however dated and the desks and chair provided were not suitable to work at for longer then a hour or so. I found the room temperature hard to balance, and the AC not easy to work. Large windows are available .
3/ for the price I paid, I was located on the first floor in an “extension” that required two lifts (you go up a floor, then walk a corridor, and go down another floor) . Not ideal for 1.8k AUD for 3 nights in shoulder season (October)
4/ the American bar ; I tired to use this, and no service was provided (no one came to take orders etc after being seated). Very odd. I decided to move on to meet up with colleagues.
5/ location - you can’t be close to everything , I found this venue hit the mark for what I wanted. Near the historic ruins, but walkable to all major tourist areas .
6/ I found the front desk team very kind and attentive in the evenings. Thank you. I had a horrible experience on check out with a rude and assertively aggressive man. Totally changed my view - I would not stay here again."

"This is an amazing and historic hotel that looks onto the Forum ruins, and is a 10 minute, easy walk to the Colosseum. The staff is friendly and helpful, and our room was spacious with a beautifully updated bathroom. And an incredible view from our room. The open air rooftop bar is a hidden treasure, and the breakfast room and offerings are fantastic. Plenty of restaurants nearby. I highly recommend Hotel Forum!"

"Great location! It has an on site, underground parking garage. Walkable to the Colosseum (5-ish min) and Trevi Fountain (about 10 min). Several restaurants within a 3-5 minutes walk. Hotel staff were all very kind and helpful. Therw is a rooftop bar with wonderful views. Would definitely stay here again."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking rooms with Forum views for an added element of wonder for kids, making history come alive. While the hotel itself might have some dated elements, the convenience and proximity to kid-friendly sites make it a practical choice for exploring Rome with family.
💰 Budget-Conscious Travelers
To make it more budget-friendly, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall) when prices might be lower. Booking well in advance is also key to securing better rates. If budget is a primary concern, explore nearby guesthouses or B&Bs, but be aware you'll likely sacrifice the direct Forum views and rooftop bar experience.
💖 Couples Seeking Romance
The hotel's central location allows for romantic evening strolls through historic streets, hand-in-hand. While some rooms might be dated, the ambiance created by the historic surroundings and the stunning views can more than make up for it. Consider booking a room with a view and enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the terrace for a memorable romantic getaway.

The Unbeatable Location: Steps from History
Travelers consistently rave about being able to see the Forum ruins from their rooms or the rooftop, calling it a 'core memory.' This direct connection to the past is a unique selling point that few other hotels can match. The surrounding area is also dotted with numerous restaurants and cafes, ensuring you're never far from a delicious meal or a refreshing drink.
For those looking to maximize their sightseeing time and minimize travel hassle, Hotel Forum offers an unparalleled base. You can easily start your day exploring ancient ruins before the major crowds arrive and end it with a sunset drink overlooking millennia of history.
Rooftop Revelry: Views and Vibes
While the views are the main draw, the bar also serves a selection of drinks and light bites. Some guests have noted that service can be inconsistent, and one particularly negative review mentioned an uncomfortable interaction regarding tipping. However, many visitors still find the experience worthwhile for the unparalleled scenery. It's advisable to go with realistic expectations regarding service and focus on the incredible visual feast.
For photographers, the rooftop is a dream. The golden hour light bathing the ancient ruins creates a spectacular scene, perfect for capturing memorable shots of Rome. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, it's worth considering a visit to the rooftop bar for the views alone.
Room Comforts and Considerations
However, it's important to note that some reviews indicate that the rooms, while spacious, can be dated in their furnishings and decor. The desks and chairs provided might not be ideal for extended work sessions, and temperature control can sometimes be tricky. Despite these points, the overall appeal of waking up to such a historic vista often outweighs these minor drawbacks for many travelers.
For those planning to work from their room, it might be worth inquiring about room renovations or requesting a room with more modern amenities. Nevertheless, the hotel's prime location and the unique views it offers remain its strongest selling points.
