Reviews Summary
Il Maritozzo Rosso is a highly praised 'hidden gem' in Rome, celebrated for its exceptional carbonara and innovative maritozzi. Diners rave about the authentic flavors, friendly staff, and reasonable prices, making it a must-visit for an intimate, local dining experience. The only minor drawback mentioned is the tight seating in the popular Trastevere location.
"This is literally my favorite restaurant in Rome/Trastevere. My friends and I are study abroad students in Rome and we stumbled upon this restaurant one night looking for an apretivo. We ended up getting dinner here and shutting it down. We have been back several times since. Perfect place if you are looking to avoid tourist traps. The food is absolutely amazing and very reasonable priced. The best carbonara I have ever had and I have been here for three months. The perfect “hole in the wall”. Very authentic and the owner is the nicest guy who takes great pride in his food. He has one multiple awards for his maritozzo’s and you cannot pass up the meatball or tiramisu one. His chef is also one of the nicest people you will encounter in Rome. I cannot recommend this restruant enough. We will treasure it forever. The best food with even better staff ! Thank you for making our study abroad so memorable. We will be back !!"

"Hidden gem of Trastevere and a recommendation you want to keep for yourself: small authentic restaurant with the best carbonara and various maritozzi combinations, a Roman brioche with filling you like. Very attentive service and what a great lunch we had. Grazie"

"Last night and meal!!! We decided to visit their second location in Trastevere. We'll my people this place was just as good. Only issues I had here was the space is tight. Some may say its romantic I say I enjoy my space. Food wise I ordered the polpette en sugo( the other locations meatball were more tender) still good flavor was definitely buenooo. This time I had Gricia originale and wife had Caico e pepe."
