"Poor Italy... The tower is permanently closed, and all the structures at its base are significantly damaged and abandoned. However, 100 meters away, a brand new Guardia di Finanza barracks stands out. Don't be intimidated by the state of disrepair and the murals that accompany you on the descent to the cove, which is truly worth it (for the sea alone...that's why I gave it 2 stars). Napoleonic and Art Nouveau villas flaunt their opulence, while the park and public area resemble the Bronx. A love of the sea on a stretch of coast that would be enchanting without the marks left by those who built, enjoyed, and then left it abandoned. Recommended for those who love the sea and the seabed like me... Not recommended for those who love nature and hate those who mistreat it."

"The tower was built in the mid-16th century. Since it is not mentioned in a list of fortifications dating back to 1539, it is plausible that it was erected after 1540 and completed by 1570. In 1606, with the establishment of the new Captaincy of Livorno, the tower became the southernmost lookout point in the territory dependent on the city of Livorno. It continued its lookout and defensive function (as the headquarters of a cuirassier garrison) even during the Lorraine rule.
Subsequently, in the 19th century, it became state property and in 1872 became the property of Diego Martelli, who sold it to his mother in 1886. It later passed to Fausto Lazzaro Patrone, owner of a nearby residence now known as Castello Pasquini. Between the end of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century, it underwent several changes of ownership, transformations, and uses. Count Gualtiero Danieli built his own neo-medieval villa around it, in the style dictated by Baron Patrone's castle.
In December 2002, the restoration of the structure was completed, restoring the monument to its original condition while also improving its accessibility."
