"This is the beautiful, perched, ruined, and uninhabited medieval ghost town of "Sanseverino di Centola" in the province of Salerno, dating back to around 1000.
You pass it by taking the internal (not coastal) regional road "562 dir" towards Palinuro.
After passing under the old, disused Mingardo bridge and following the road towards the village by car, you'll come to a small, free parking lot (half a dozen spaces). From there, a free, uphill trail begins that leads to the village, which can be safely explored along its narrow streets, as indicated by specific signs.
From up there, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the new town and the valley.
Fascinating but little-publicized.
