"Sunday mass 8.30 19.30"
Grzegorz Zacher
"About 7 kilometers from Vieste, along the coast road that leads to Peschici, stands the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Merino, a small white church, surrounded by a green area. In the small adjoining park, a large space is dedicated to outdoor celebrations with an altar and stone benches. The place has a great atmosphere. Very dear to the people of Vieste, on the occasion of the feast of the Madonna, May 9th, it is a pilgrimage destination, with a procession that starts from the cathedral and travels 7 kilometers until reaching the small church."

"It almost goes unnoticed from the street. A little set back from the road, with access via a gate (presumably closed during the night). A fairly large courtyard, in one corner a small wooden "stand" for religious souvenirs (which I haven't seen open).
A small gem that the faith of the locals has expanded over time, until reaching a large area to the right of the building, used as a discreet "oasis": an outdoor place to gather as many people as possible in prayer.
The white marble benches form concentric semicircles, facing the covered altar. Ample space to pass easily and quite comfortable as a seat.
On the sides of the altar, reproductions of the statue of the Madonna of Merino (the original is in the cathedral in Vieste) and that of San Michele Arcangelo."
