"It’s a great (short) drive to get up here. Encourage you to if you have transport and near by the area. The church is quite small and not impressive from the inside but there are a few relics there worth noting, and there is a restaurant there which is recommended on a day that is not too windy. Enjoy some drone photos!"

The Festa dei Ceri: A Millennial Tradition

The Festa dei Ceri is Gubbio's most famous and ancient tradition, celebrated every year on May 15th in honor of Saint Ubaldo. This extraordinary event sees massive wooden structures, known as 'Ceri' (literally 'candles'), weighing hundreds of kilograms, carried at breakneck speed through the narrow streets of Gubbio by teams of 'Ceraioli' (candle bearers). TikTok The origin of the festival dates back to 1160, making it one of the oldest folk traditions in the world. TikTok

The Ceri are not actually candles but tall, heavy wooden structures topped with statues of saints. The race is a display of immense strength, coordination, and devotion. The Ceri are paraded around the city before being carried up Monte Ingino to the Basilica di Sant'Ubaldo, a testament to the enduring faith and community spirit of Gubbio. Instagram Witnessing this event is an unforgettable experience, filled with incredible energy and a deep sense of history. Reddit
