What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Scalo di Furno is praised for its stunningly clear, pool-like waters and fine sandy beach, offering a relaxing escape. However, visitors note the presence of rocky areas and a poorly maintained, inaccessible archaeological site. Weekends can be crowded, detracting from the tranquility.
"3m. Beach were no one goes because there's rocks everywhere so very quite and relaxing"
Gianluca Simone
"I grew up in this wonderful corner of paradise. Illegal construction has destroyed the dunes that once framed it, and the owners of the buildings overlooking the sea believe (wrongly) that they also own the sea. The colors are marvelous, especially on days with a strong northerly wind. A corner of paradise."
Marco Quarta
"If we're talking about the sea and the public beach, the score would be 5 stars, but since we're talking about the archaeological site, I'd say it deserves the minimum score: the site is fenced (although there are several places where the fence is broken), there's a sort of sign that's been up for who knows how many years and where nothing is readable anymore. If there's anything worthwhile, it should be better protected and made accessible, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be considered important.
If you want to go to the beach, I recommend avoiding weekends when the beach fills up with Fantozzi-esque families who arrive with towels, chairs, tables, and umbrellas (all that's missing is a barbecue on the beach), plus the usual kids who mistake the beach for a soccer field, and if you want to sunbathe in peace, you have to go into the water.
On less crowded days, the place is gorgeous."

The Beach Experience at Scalo di Furno
While the natural beauty is undeniable, the beach can get quite crowded on weekends. Reviews mention large family gatherings with extensive setups, which can detract from a peaceful experience. For those seeking a more serene visit, opting for a weekday is highly recommended. The presence of typical coastal vegetation adds to the natural charm, though some reviews lament the impact of illegal construction on the dunes that once framed the area.
Practical advice for enjoying the beach includes bringing water shoes to navigate the rocky patches comfortably. Facilities are generally minimal, so packing essentials like food, water, and sun protection is key. The free parking is a significant convenience, making it easier for visitors to access this picturesque spot.
The Archaeological Site: A Disappointment?
This lack of upkeep and accessibility leads to a disappointing experience for those hoping to explore the history of the area. Many visitors bypass the site altogether, focusing solely on the beach. The general sentiment is that if the site holds importance, it deserves better protection and presentation to make it a worthwhile attraction.
For travelers interested in the historical aspect, it's advisable to temper expectations. The primary draw remains the natural beauty of the coastline rather than the archaeological remains. If you do wish to see it, be prepared for a potentially underwhelming encounter with history.
