It was built on this site to house a venerated and ancient tabernacle containing a miraculous fresco: the Madonna and Child, also known as the Madonna of the Fever or the Madonna of the Vivaio (Madonna of the Fever) due to two springs that flowed nearby, forming a pond. The Oratory represents a unique example of eighteenth-century Tuscan architecture.
