Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Santa Maria la Nova Quarter for its rich history, stunning Baroque-Neoclassical architecture, and the intriguing legend of Dracula's tomb. The church's interior is noted for its grandeur and artistic details. Some visitors mention that the church is closed in the mornings and a small donation is requested for restoration.

"The building shows us a neoclassical appearance, more clearly legible inside than outside due to the rational use of the pilasters which follow harmonious rules which seem to have been borrowed from Roman spa buildings. The interior is the result of the last major reconstruction (preceded by the seventeenth-century reconstruction and the eighteenth-century post-earthquake 1693), it presents itself as a spacious vaulted hall to which three domed chapels on each side lead; these are communicating and constitute the lateral naves in an axial view. The deep choir"

Nuovo Ind

"It is the largest and most important church in Scicli, since 1994 it has also been home to the Sanctuary of Maria SS.ma della Pietà.
The building is in baroque-neoclassical style, with three naves, with numerous and rich altars, including the one that was supposed to house the ashes of the benefactor Busacca, which never arrived from Palermo despite the huge expenses incurred.
It houses the statue of the Risen Christ, "'U Gioia", the silver-coated statue of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Sorrows.
Closed in the morning, except for religious ceremonies, it is open in the afternoon from 5pm to 7pm."

Paolo Oddo

"The largest in the town, I've never seen so many churches all together."
