"Wonderful setting in authentic Italian village. Beautiful domed ceiling."
Richard van Lienden
"It stands in the small square of Seiano and stands out among the various churches on the Peninsula for its central plan, circular in shape, and for the large dome! The facade is in neoclassical style and has 2 symmetrical bell towers on the sides. Inside there are 7 chapels along the perimeter. The church dates back to the beginning of the 1600s and was built on the basis of a pre-existing church, known as Santa Maria Vecchia. If you want to visit, I recommend choosing a bus or scooter if possible, because there are very few parking spaces!"

Architectural Marvel of Seiano
The church's history dates back to the early 1600s, built upon the foundations of a pre-existing church known as Santa Maria Vecchia. This historical layering adds depth to its significance. The construction on a central plan is a deliberate choice that influences the entire visitor experience, offering a different perspective compared to traditional basilica layouts. The blend of historical roots with neoclassical elements creates a visually striking monument that is both historically important and aesthetically pleasing.
The Evocative Crypt Exhibition
What truly enhances the experience within the crypt is its unusual cork covering on the walls. This natural material creates a distinct and evocative atmosphere, adding a rustic and earthy feel that complements the detailed nativity dioramas. The combination of the intricate artistry of the nativity scenes and the unique textural quality of the cork walls makes this a memorable and highly recommended visit for those exploring the church.
Acoustics and Musical Heritage
The presence of a large pipe organ in the choir area is a testament to the church's commitment to musical tradition. The way sound travels and fills the space is a key part of the church's appeal, transforming a simple visit into a sensory event. For those interested in experiencing the spiritual and artistic heart of Seiano, attending a service to witness these musical elements is a must-do.
