Know Your 'Sand'

The 'white sand' here is actually limestone powder from the nearby Solvay factory. While stunning, it can be abrasive and reflect intense heat. Protect your skin and consider limiting your direct sun exposure time. Reddit

Spiagge in Toscana?

Hi so my boyfriend and I are planning on traveling to Tuscany this summer because he's a big history geek. I know Tuscany isn't really the place to go for for long white beaches, but we're pretty flexible. Actually what we'd love is maybe a small coastal town with a beach? It…

Any tips for Livorno region?

I know this may be the wrong place, but the Livorno subreddit seems pretty dead so I am hoping to get some more answers here. I’ll be in Livorno region in February and again in May. Starting from Lucca, I plan to drive south to Campiglia Marittima. I am just looking for any…

Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently amazed by the breathtaking turquoise waters and the unique white 'sand' of Spiagge Bianche, often comparing it to tropical paradises. However, many note the lack of services and the origin of the 'sand' as a limestone byproduct, advising visitors to pack all necessities and be mindful of sun exposure. Reddit

"Nice beach, not too crowded, clear blue sea (artificial, lookup Solvay to find reason), no real food drink accommodations except some private clubs, so bring your own"

Sèmir Mabrouk

"The atmosphere of the beach is breathtaking. It's really like you'd be in Maldives or Seychelles. The color of the water and the white sand, well, a piece of our heart stayed there forever. The sand BTW is not sand, not even from white shells' powder, it's from limestone coming from an old factory. Because it's white it's not recommended to stay there for more than a few hours, even people with good skin burnt to red and spent their night and the next few days on pain. In the main season you can rent sunbrellas and I'm not sure but maybe sunbeds too. There are toilets and shower you have to pay for it/them. It's a long beach, there are three path to reach it, one on the northern part, one approximately on the middle and one on south. We approached from south so if parking, I can talk about it only. The parking lot is not too large, there are spaces only for 15-20 cars (including 2-3 for disabled people) and a few motorbikes for free for all day. You have to arrive early to have one for yourselves. Right next to these lot there's another one opening from this one. It has a barrier/bar that is - according to locals - closed only at festive times which are mostly on weekends. But even those times you can use that parking lot for some fee which was €7 for all day (2025). It's a bigger one, a lot more car can park there."

"turquoise water beach, clean and quite. I enjoyed there with my family. I recommend it and I will go there again. It’s a public wild beach no services available so you must take umbrella and plenty of drinks."
