"Invisitabile"
Francesco Talarico
"Nestled deep in the woods of Stilo, this site retains an old-world charm. It's a shame it's not being well-regarded.
When we visited, the gate was closed, although there were certainly some caretakers inside the site, but I don't know if it's possible to visit the residence.
It's a shame the site isn't being well-regarded. I hope it will be better in the future.
A small historical gem in the Calabrian region."
Lukin Angian
"An interesting testament to Calabria's industrial past during the Bourbon era, destroyed by the Savoy family after the unification of Italy. The site includes industrial facilities (blast furnace, foundry, administrative buildings), the church, and Villa Ferdinandea, the Bourbons' hunting lodge. Unfortunately, the site is in very poor condition.
The villa and foundry are not accessible, but can only be viewed from the outside. Little more than the foundations remain of the blast furnace, church, and administrative buildings. A tour had been prepared for these, but poor maintenance makes it difficult to appreciate them. Near the sites, there is a picnic area with tables, benches, and barbecues.
The site is surrounded by a cool forest, making it a pleasant visit on hot summer days.
The site invites reflection on the real causes of the lack of industrialization in southern Italy. It wasn't always like this. During the Bourbon era, this site was a prime example of excellence. After the conquest by the Savoy family, they decided to move production to the North, encouraging the emigration of the workforce and providing low-cost labor to Northern industries."
