What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Su Sterru is a fascinating natural wonder with a deep chasm and a rich history of legends. While the chasm itself is viewed from a single point, the surrounding Golgo plateau captivates with its friendly, free-roaming animals and stunning mountain scenery. The drive to the location is also a highlight for many.
"Short walk to see the Voragine Di Golgo as seen in the pics added. From the signage keep going straight and turn to the right. Along the way you might encounter different kinds of animals."
Caroline Grech
"Su Sterru is undeniably a fascinating natural wonder—a 280-meter-deep chasm nestled in Sardinia’s Golgo plateau. Its geological significance and the legends surrounding it add to its allure. However, the experience feels somewhat limited. The chasm is viewable only from a single, fenced vantage point, and there’s no opportunity to explore its depths unless you’re a seasoned speleologist. If you’re unaware of its exact location, it’s easy to miss, as signage and accessibility are minimal. While the surrounding landscape is picturesque, the site’s presentation could be enhanced to fully capture the magic that such a unique formation deserves."
Paweł Berestecki
"A really Deep Hole 😂 (that’s more or less what Su Sterru apparently means in Sardinian) - 280m deep. Interesting as the terrible Sa Serpiente monster allegedly either came out of it to devour local virgins sacrificed to it or was banished to it by the valiant St Peter, whose church is nearby. Anyways, it had some pagan religious/ritual significance to the locals. Cool access path."
