What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tirano Railway Station is primarily recognized as the Italian terminus for the stunning Bernina Express, offering a gateway to the Swiss Alps. While the town itself is praised for its beauty and delicious food, some travelers have noted logistical challenges with Italian rail services departing from the station, including last-minute changes and poor information flow. The Bernina Express journey itself is consistently lauded as a world-class scenic experience.
"An oldest town in Switzerland with churches established in the 13th century and beautiful Town 😍"

"This station is one end of the Bernina Express swiss panoramic train which is running between Tirano and Chur. There are two services departing from chur in the morning abd afternoon. Trains departing from Tirano are generally less crowded. Train journey is approximately 4 hrs. First class is at the back of the train. At one end of the second class carriages, there is one lowerable window. This is the opposite end to luggage space. There was such a window in first class too. Other windows are sealed.
However, regular trains too run on same route to chur every hour. One such train is departing before Bernina in the morning. Those trins have lowerable windows to get pictures without glass reflection. Regular train tickets can be easily purchased online with SSB app. Journey time will be 6 hours. Those trins can get crowded. Both sides are beautiful but left hand side would be better to get more scenery and better view of Brusio spiral viaduct, Ospizio bernina lake, Alph grum glacier, Bernina glacier, and landwasser viaduct.
There are two buildings in Tirano station. One is for swiss trains and other is for milano bound italian trains. There are trains to Milano from here operated by Trenord. When coming from Milano to Tirano, can book tickets via trenord website. If trian is not coming up to Tirano, there are connecting bus services."
