What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Castello di Torrechiara for its stunning beauty, rich history, and romantic narrative. The well-preserved frescoes, particularly in the Camera d'Oro, and the breathtaking views of the Parma Valley are frequently highlighted as major attractions. The adjacent medieval village adds to the charm, offering a complete historical and culinary experience. Some visitors note that guided tours are primarily in Italian, which might be a consideration for non-Italian speakers.
"Castello di Torrechiara is incredible. Built in the 1400s by Pier Maria Rossi as both a fortress and a love story for Bianca Pellegrini, it has been beautifully preserved. Walking through the frescoed halls and the famous Golden Chamber is a real highlight. The tour lasts about 45 minutes to an hour which is just the right amount of time to take it all in.
What makes the visit even better is the small village that sits right on the castle property up the hill. There is a restaurant, wine tasting, and a few places to relax, and it feels like stepping back into another time. The combination of the castle and the little hamlet makes this well worth the drive from Parma and a perfect way to spend part of the day."

"Castello di Torrechiara is the kind of castle that makes your jaw drop before you've even stepped inside. Perched high above the Parma Valley, its honey-colored stone walls, perfectly preserved towers, and commanding views feel lifted straight from a Renaissance painting. The setting is cinematic, and the approach alone is worth the visit.
Inside, the castle continues to impress with beautifully frescoed rooms, especially the famous Camera d'Oro-a stunning tribute to courtly love, lined with golden light and richly symbolic detail. The blend of military architecture and romantic art is something truly unique. You can feel the story of Pier Maria Rossi and Bianca Pellegrini lingering in every corner.
Whether you're here for the history, the art, or just the breathtaking views of vineyards and hills rolling into the distance, Torrechiara delivers on every front. It's one of the most captivating castles in Italy, and absolutely worth the journey to see it in person.""

"Stunning looking castle with beautiful frescoes internally, rich in history. Also lovely views of the surrounding countryside and there’s a lovely medieval village nearby with a restaurant and shops selling local produce - ham, cheese, wine and more. We did a fascinating 45 minute guided tour in Italian - which cost 5 euros each - with a very good guide called Giacomo."
