Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Church of Sant'Agostino to be a well-maintained historical site within the charming medieval village of Tortoreto Alto. Its notable bronze portal and Baroque interiors are appreciated, as are the stunning panoramic sea views from the village. Some note that it was recently restored and is open in the evenings.

"Built more recently than the others in the town or perhaps better rearranged. Also open in the evening. The portal is notable. With adjoining Monastery"

Paolo Grimaldi

"We are in Tortoreto, a medieval village with breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea, Tortoreto Lido, Maiella, and Gran Sasso. It's a shame that the church was closed in July, like others in Tortoreto. Interestingly, near the church is a small church, the Annunciation, with beautiful frescoes inside. On its door is an Angel of the Annunciation."

MARILDE CLERICI

"The church of Sant'Agostino was almost entirely rebuilt in 1613 by Father Agostino Tavani, prior and founder of the convent.
The church's bronze portal, created in 1988, is the work of the sculptor Romano Buffagni. The year 1640 is carved into the façade. Until 388, the convent was dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot.
The church has a single nave with Baroque-style altars decorated with stucco. The altarpiece depicting the baptism of Saint Augustine, painted by Mattia Preti in 1640, is now housed in the National Museum of L'Aquila, where it was taken for restoration. The church houses a 300-pipe organ dating back to 1850."
