"Surprising little Museum along the gorgeous Greenways walking route"
chris james
"Visiting Villa Mainona is very interesting because it preserves and displays the precious prints from the Crivelli Visconti collection which illustrate locations and suggestive views of Lake Como in various eras. It is thus possible to notice how many and what changes have affected the territory but they are also a beautiful testimony of both the ancient landscapes and the luxurious historic villas which are still the pride of the Lario. During the Christmas period, however, the museum hosts the exhibition of nativity scenes and dioramas set up by the Tremezzina nativity scene makers' association. All very beautiful and with great attention to detail, they are the result of true passion but also of research, imagination and confident craftsmanship. The Neapolitan nativity scene is impressive for its size, the number of figurines with 18th century inspired clothes woven with gold thread, the perfectly reconstructed interiors, the suggestive lights. The artists who create the terracotta figurines are excellent, true small masterpieces from the regions of southern Italy where the tradition of the nativity scene is still very much alive. The museum is open seasonally, ticket 5/3 euros and is truly not to be missed during the Christmas holidays, especially for families and children who will have the opportunity to admire these beautiful works created with so much passion."
