What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Santa Caterina Civic Museum for its stunning medieval frescoes, fascinating excavated artifacts, and the spectacular architecture of the former monastery. The thoughtful touches like smart lighting and English translations are highly appreciated, making for a well-curated and enjoyable experience. However, some guests have noted discrepancies in exhibit signage and pricing issues in the museum shop.
"Very nice museum, I went there at about 12:00 and was almost alone and I enjoyed it very much! This museum had English translations and it was nice because I could read about the exhibits. The building is spectacular with the inner garden space and the old church. I also liked the fact that some rooms had a sensor that opened the lights when you walked in the room, so you’re saving energy and is a nice touch seeing the exhibits light up gradually. The stuff was very friendly!"

"An unexpected pleasure to find this museum. It has an archaelogical part, a pinacoteca and then the Santa Caterina church with frescos dating back to the 13th century."

"Signage does not correspond to the artefacts everytime so it needs to be updated. However, I am not giving my 1 star just for that but it's because I had a rather shocking experience. I bought five postcards and three of them were priced at 1.50€ on the signage. The price for the others wasn't even showing. I was charged 10€ for the postcards. The lady at the counter took an eternity to give me the bill as she looked up the postcards individually on the system. When I pointed out the price issue she made a phone call, again taking more of my time. Although the lady at the counter apologised, I cannot understand how there is such a lack of updating the prices in a museum shop which is so small, maybe having around 100 items on sale."
