"Built between 1798 and 1805 by Matteo Pertsch at the request of Demetrio Carciotti, this Neoclassical building is considered a symbol of Trieste’s commercial prosperity and multicultural heritage. In 1831, it became the first headquarters of Assicurazioni Generali, one of Italy’s leading insurance companies. Over the years, it has housed various institutions, including the Austro-Hungarian Bank, the Allied Military Government, and the Port Authority. During World War I, in 1918, the copper covering of its dome was removed by the Austrian government as part of wartime metal requisitioning. In 2024, the Generali Group announced plans to reacquire and redevelop the building as an innovation and education hub."

"Very nice old palace build by Greek merchant Demetrio Carciotti in Neo-Classic style, with a big cupola and multiple sculptures.
Located just near the Canal Grande. Nice views of the palace also can be seen from the Molo Audace pier."
