"The Abbey was presumably founded in 1123 by Cistercian monks on land donated to them by Marquis Ranieri I of Monferrato. The land, which needed reclamation, was characterized at the time by marshland and woodland. Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, also stayed there.
Today it is a rice mill. Guided tours are available."
