What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Lavini di Marco Dinosaur Tracks a fascinating and surreal experience, offering a tangible connection to prehistoric life. While the impressive viewing platform is a highlight, some reviewers note a lack of detailed signage and suggest improvements to the site's educational aspects. The hike to the tracks is generally manageable but requires preparation for sun exposure and comfortable footwear.
"Marco's Lavini Paleontological Site and Biotope
I was somewhat prejudiced after reading some of the negative reviews, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this site.
First of all, it must be said that the directions are rather poor. I parked at the Baita degli Alpini Lizzanella, on Via degli Artiglieri. From there, walk back about 200 meters to the first bend: on the left, there's a barrier, beyond which a dirt road begins.
Following this road for about 20 minutes, you'll reach a large structure with stairs that allow you to observe the dinosaur footprints from above. The structure is truly impressive and gives the impression of a significant investment.
What's a bit puzzling is the lack of explanatory signs, either along the route or on the platform. This is a shame, because with a few simple information panels, the experience would be much more engaging. The overall impression is of a project left unfinished.
I highly recommend wearing hiking shoes and bringing plenty of water, especially in the summer months: the trail is exposed to the sun and gets very hot.
The hike offers beautiful views of the valley, and in some places you can see fossilized footprints on the ground, which someone has highlighted with small stone circles to make them more visible.
All in all, walking in the same spot where dinosaurs walked millions of years ago is an almost surreal experience... definitely worth a visit!"

"If you have seen all the Jurassic Park movies,
If you go to Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo (VR) every year to visit the Jurassic Adventure,
If you go to the Natural History Museum in London only to see the giant dinosaur skeleton in the central Hall,
This is the place for you!!
You really have to be passionate to walk under the relentless sun in an area without any indication to go and look for this attraction that has been made accessible by disfiguring the landscape with a huge metal staircase equipped with platforms at the points where the footprints are present.
The enhancement of the site perhaps still needs to be completed but at least a sign to indicate to the unwary tourist which direction to take could have been placed.
In short, the advice is to divert towards the coolness of Lake Garda or, if you really are forced to stop in Rovereto, visit the military shrine and the bell of the fallen. But before 4:30 pm!!
In fact, to meet the needs of tourists, these sites close at 4:30 pm. Meh.....
Rovereto is the city of peace and so by organizing the attractions, peace is certainly assured."

"To think that dinosaurs roamed this place, when it was a seaside beach, makes you understand the constant change of our land. It's a thrill!
An international site to recommend and visit in Rovereto, TN, in the Costa Violina area."
