What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Floristella-Grottacalda Mining Park to be a place of great historical charm and scenic beauty, offering an interesting glimpse into Sicily's industrial past. However, some reviews point to issues with maintenance, safety in certain areas, and inconsistent visitor management, which detract from the overall experience.
"Amazing place for outdoor activities and history"
Chris Elson
"The guided tour was nothing short of scandalous. The Pinnisi building employee was embarrassing, as was the building itself. There was no light inside, the internal staircase leading to the floors below was completely dark, making it unsafe, and pigeon droppings were everywhere.
Tall grass at the entrance, everything was abandoned.
Furthermore, the caretaker in charge forced us to leave (it was half an hour before closing time) because he had to return to the offices by 2:00 PM. He was unpresentable.
It's unfortunate to write reviews like this; unfortunately, such an important site for that part of Sicily should be handled differently.
A star is mandatory, but I would have preferred not to give it one."
Laura Barba
"This is a former sulfur mine that operated until the 1950s. The entire mining park is very pleasant for an hour's walk. The villa is very pretty, but it is not possible to visit it. The park contains three wells, all of which are closed. The setting is splendid."
