Reviews Summary

Travelers rave about the Venice water taxi service, highlighting its convenience, especially for airport transfers, and the sheer enjoyment of the scenic canal rides. Many praise specific drivers for their kindness and professionalism, making the journey feel special. While the high cost is a recurring point, most agree it's a worthwhile splurge for the unique experience and grand arrival it provides.

"Wonderful service! Out boat with Tommi was right in the place when we arrived, easy to find. The ride to Centro was wonderful, we enjoyed it."

Dmitrii Geniuk

"Very pleased with Venice Taxi Boat. Stefano and Tommaso in taxi no. 200 were delightful. We opted for a luxury boat, which is pricey but totally FUN and it fit the vibe of our special friends’ glam Biennale rip. I expect you’ll get the same wonderful service on a standard taxi from this company. (Think limo vs. regular car.). Especially nice that we had the same drivers/boat on our arrival as for our departure. I received texts the day prior and day of to confirm both trips and the location for pick-up. The taxi ride is 20 minutes from the center of Venice to the airport. Next trip I’ll skip the meet-and-greet at the airport arrivals and just walk myself to the taxi dock. (The car for the .5 mile trip from terminal to dock is a nice option if you have a lot of bags or have mobility concerns—the alternative walk is covered and features a series of moving walkways.)"

Kathryn H

"Fantastic service, we used Stefano to and from the train station. Great way to travel the Venetian canals in style. Also booked the Murano/Burano tour he offers and we were treated like VIPs everywhere we went."

For Different Travelers

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

A water taxi can be a magical start to a family trip to Venice, offering an exciting boat ride right from the airport. The novelty of traveling on the water can captivate children, making the journey itself an adventure. However, the high cost might be a deterrent for families on a tighter budget. If splurging, ensure the water taxi company can accommodate car seats if needed, or confirm age restrictions. For a more budget-friendly option, consider the Alilaguna water bus, which is still a boat ride but at a public transport price point. TikTok+1

💰 Budget Travelers

For budget-conscious travelers, a private water taxi is likely out of reach. The cost of €150-€170 for a one-way trip from the airport is substantial. Instead, consider the Alilaguna water bus, which offers a scenic boat transfer from Marco Polo Airport to various points in Venice for a fraction of the price. Alternatively, take a land bus or taxi to Piazzale Roma and then use the vaporetto (public water bus), which is the most economical way to navigate Venice's canals. TikTok

💖 Couples & Romantic Getaways

A private water taxi offers an incredibly romantic and stylish way for couples to arrive in Venice. Imagine gliding down the Grand Canal as the sun sets, with the iconic Venetian architecture as your backdrop. It's a splurge that can elevate the start of your romantic getaway. Consider booking a water taxi with an optional Grand Canal detour for an even more memorable experience. TikTokReddit

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Venice Water Taxi Experience: More Than Just a Ride

The Venice water taxi is more than just a mode of transport; it's an iconic part of the Venetian experience. Unlike the bustling public water buses (vaporetti), water taxis offer a private and often luxurious journey through the city's intricate network of canals. Many travelers describe the arrival from Marco Polo Airport via water taxi as a truly unforgettable moment, gliding past historic palazzos and under charming bridges, setting a magical tone for their visit. TikTok+1

While the convenience of being dropped off directly at your hotel's water entrance is a major draw, the scenic aspect is equally compelling. Cruising down the Grand Canal, you get a unique perspective of Venice that's impossible to replicate from land. Some services even offer optional detours through smaller canals or to nearby islands like Murano and Burano, allowing for a personalized exploration of the lagoon. TikTokReddit

However, it's crucial to be aware of the cost. Private water taxis are a significant investment, with prices from the airport often ranging from €150 to €170. This makes it a splurge for many, but for those seeking a grand entrance or a special way to celebrate an occasion, the experience is often deemed worth the expense. TikTok+1

Navigating Airport Transfers: Water Taxi vs. Other Options

When arriving at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), you have several options to reach the city, each with its own pros and cons. The water taxi offers the most direct and scenic route, whisking you away from the airport terminal and onto the water, often directly to your hotel. This is particularly appealing if you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns, as it bypasses multiple transfers and walking. TikTok+2

In contrast, the Alilaguna water bus is a more budget-friendly public transport option from the airport. It follows set routes and stops, taking longer than a private water taxi but costing significantly less. Another common method is taking a land bus or taxi from the airport to Piazzale Roma, Venice's bus and car terminal, and then transferring to a vaporetto (public water bus) to reach your final destination. This is the most economical but also the most time-consuming and involves more changes. TikTok

The choice often comes down to budget and desired experience. If you're looking for a luxurious and efficient arrival, the private water taxi is unparalleled. If budget is a primary concern, the Alilaguna or the bus-to-vaporetto combination are more practical choices. TikTok
