What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
San Marco Vallaresso is a breathtaking and historically rich area, with Piazza San Marco being its undeniable centerpiece. Visitors rave about the stunning architecture and the unique Venetian atmosphere. However, the overwhelming crowds and high prices for food and services are common points of contention.
"$2 gondola experience per person between Saint Mark Square and Basilica Santa Maria della Salute. It is a cheap way to experience this usual expensive boat ride. How to ride
(1) Prepare $2 cash for per person
(2) Q up in the line
(3) Wait for instruction to onboard Gondola
(4) Pay to the boat rower
(5) 5 mins+ Gondola ride to other end
Enjoy 😉!"

"The 2 EUR gondola!
Insider Tip: Get a gondola from this terminal to the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute (just across the Grand Canal) for 2 EUR!"
Reto Keller
"The prices could be better for students, as there is no student discounts. However, prices from the ferry dock land to the airports is €15 per person, the bus is €10 but you’d need to walk 30 minutes. There are boat rides and tours that go to Murano, Burano which cost €25 per person I highly recommend that tour as one way to Murano is €9,50 and return is €18. So the tour is definitely the better option if you want to explore. You’ll also see gondola rides for a discounted price at €29 for 30minutes per person"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Practical tips for families: Bring plenty of snacks and water, as food prices directly on the square are high. Comfortable walking shoes are a must for everyone, as you'll be doing a lot of walking and navigating bridges. Look for 'cicchetti' bars for more casual, family-friendly snack options.
💰 Budget Travelers
Key budget tips: Avoid restaurants with prime views of Piazza San Marco. Purchase Vaporetto day passes if you plan on using them frequently. Be aware of ticket machine payment options; they often accept cash. Consider visiting attractions during off-peak hours or looking for combo tickets if available to save on entry fees.

The Magic of Piazza San Marco
Experiencing the piazza at different times of day reveals its changing character. Early mornings offer a serene atmosphere, perfect for appreciating the architecture without the throngs of tourists. As the day progresses, it becomes a lively center of activity. Evenings bring a romantic ambiance, with the buildings illuminated and the sounds of live music from the historic cafes filling the air. Many visitors find the sheer scale and historical weight of the piazza overwhelming in the best possible way, calling it the 'business card' of Venice.
Budget-Friendly Gondola Experiences
To utilize this option, be prepared with cash. Travelers report that the gondoliers at these terminals expect exact change, typically 2 EUR per person. Look for the designated boarding points and be ready to queue. While it's not a leisurely tour of the canals, it provides a unique perspective of the city from the water and is a highly recommended tip for budget-conscious visitors. It's a stark contrast to the more expensive options, proving that experiencing Venice doesn't always require a large budget.
Navigating Venice's Ticket Systems
A common pitfall travelers encounter is misinformation about payment methods. Some individuals, potentially trying to upsell or direct tourists, might claim that ticket machines only accept credit cards. Travelers have reported that these machines do accept cash, so don't be deterred if you prefer to pay with bills. Always try the cash option first if that's your preference. This small piece of advice can save you hassle and ensure you can purchase your tickets smoothly.
