"Old historic building"
Harmandeep Singh
"It is the oldest canal in the city, dating back to the late 14th century (it already existed in 1392).
It was also used to bring water to the defensive moat in front of the city walls (in some sections, it was even part of the moat).
In the section below the Terraggio fortifications (about 300 meters remain in the street of the same name), it powered two mills, one for the production of flour, called the Porta Nuova Mill, and the other, which served as a sawmill, called the Resega Mill.
The two mills still exist today and meet along the current Via dei Mulini.
In the second half of the last century, much of the Roggia Vecchia (and other city canals) was covered over, so today, only a few sections of the canal are visible above ground."

"One of my few remaining favorite places in my city, which I've always loved and respected... it's a shame there's no constant surveillance to prevent unsavory patrons from turning it into a place for drug dealing, hashish consumption, and camping.
It would really take very little: security guards, surveillance, and security guards trained to enforce laws and urban decorum, as well as respect for the freedom of others."
