Reviews Summary

Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary offers a natural escape with attractions like Ganga Lake and the potential for wildlife sightings, including newly discovered plant species. However, many visitors report significant issues with maintenance, inaccurate maps, and poor signage, leading to a disappointing experience for some. The sanctuary has potential but requires substantial improvements in upkeep and visitor amenities.

"I recently visited the zoo in Itanagar, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing zoo experiences I’ve ever had. I genuinely wouldn’t recommend it — it felt like a waste of time and effort.

To begin with, the map provided is completely inaccurate — roads shown on the map don’t even exist, making it confusing to navigate. There are very few signs guiding visitors, so you’re mostly left wandering, unsure of where to go.

The maintenance of the zoo is extremely poor. Most enclosures are either difficult to see into because of overgrown forest or cage nets covered in algae, which blocks visibility. The animals are few — most enclosures had only 1 or 2 animals, and they were hard to spot.

The snake section only had pythons, and no other snakes, which was underwhelming. I was especially disappointed seeing the beautiful blue macaw, but its cage was so poorly maintained that we could barely see it, let alone take any decent photos.

There are hardly any signboards to indicate what animals are where, making it frustrating and confusing to explore.

This place seriously needs attention in terms of maintenance, signage, and animal care. It has potential, but as it stands, I’d suggest giving it a miss unless major improvements are made."

Ravindra Pratap

"The zoo's location and surroundings are quite nice. It is easily accessible by road, and a Google map can be followed. Unfortunately, animal numbers are not that impressive. However, the ambience is surreal. A couple of tigers and a black bear were a treat to watch. Do visit whenever you are in Itanagar with your children.
Pro tip: Do get your car inside the zoo premises by paying them 300 at the counter which will save our legs as well as time, otherwise brace yourself for a long walk inside the premises which you will enjoy a cool day."

Shinjan Patra

"Quite a good place to hang out, with lots of animal species around among which the Leopard was my favourite."

Flora and Fauna Discoveries

Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary is not only a haven for known wildlife but also a site of significant botanical discoveries.
