What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hatsushima Island is praised for its accessibility as a quick island escape from Tokyo, offering a tropical resort feel with attractions like a lighthouse and ocean-view baths. Visitors appreciate the opportunities for fishing and exploring the island's natural beauty. However, some find the dining options to be standard tourist prices and recommend bringing personal items like towels to manage costs.
"This remote island is easily accessible, just 30 minutes from Atami Port.
As a tourist island, there are a variety of tourist attractions.
There's a tropical resort-like feel, as well as athletic facilities, log cabin-like structures, and even a place where you can do barbecues. Check the website or the pamphlets at the port beforehand to find out more.
The athletic facilities look interesting from a distance.
This time, I visited the baths, lighthouse, shrine, and restaurant.
The bath was "Shima no Yu." I recommend the open-air bath with a panoramic view of the ocean, but it's small, so if it's crowded, it might not be as enjoyable. Also, towels are expensive, so bring your own.
The lighthouse is the only place on the island where you can get a 360-degree view, so I personally recommend it. It depends on the weather. It costs 300 yen, but I think it's worth saving for.
Lastly, there are two shrines: Ryugu Shrine and Hatsuki Shrine. They're ordinary shrines, but Hatsuki Shrine has a face-out panel. There's also a temple. Restaurants are priced at typical tourist destination prices. There are several, so it seems like some are good and some are bad. To be honest, I didn't get a good one this time. But there seem to be some good ones, so I'll try again next time.
There are local turban shells and other souvenirs available, but I couldn't find any that said, "I went to Hatsushima."
There are quite a few people who come mainly for fishing, so if you're good at it, you might be able to catch a variety of fish. They also have rental rods available...
There are no coin lockers, but there is a place to leave your luggage at the port.
If you know what you want to do, I think it's a pretty enjoyable island.
My goal this time was to "relax on a remote island."
Next time, I think I'll go fishing."
