What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Peninsula Tokyo is lauded for its exceptional, world-class service and meticulous attention to detail, making guests feel truly valued. While some find the decor slightly dated, the comfortable rooms, excellent dining, and stunning city views from the rooftop bar are consistent highlights. The spa offers a serene escape, and the hotel's central location is a significant advantage for exploring Tokyo.
"I checked in at The Peninsula Tokyo today and I am scheduled to stay until Friday, but unfortunately my experience has been extremely disappointing from the moment I arrived.
First, the hotel feels very old. The furniture, the colors, and the overall atmosphere are outdated and quite gloomy — mostly dark browns that make the space feel heavy. Even the lobby has a strong smell of food because it functions as a dining area. It is strange to find myself having breakfast in the middle of the lobby instead of in a proper restaurant setting. It doesn’t feel relaxing at all.
The first room I was given was honestly unacceptable. The colors were depressing, the lighting was dark, and the window was very small with a view facing the back of buildings. I immediately asked for a room change. The front desk agent was not very helpful — she only said, “Let me see,” without offering any real solution. I was ready to cancel my reservation and move to the Mandarin, which I usually stay at.
After some back-and-forth and speaking with the duty supervisor, I finally received a better room. I appreciate that the supervisor was much more professional and helpful, although I still waited a long time while exhausted.
Then I tried to order dinner. I requested a Roka salad, tomato soup, and French fries.
The “Roka salad” they sent was simply a basic green salad — tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and a bit of mint. There was no arugula at all, which defeats the purpose of calling it “Roka” salad.
The fries were extremely oily and arrived cold.
The tomato soup tasted mainly like heavy cream, not tomato — I could barely drink a few spoonfuls even though I was starving.
I am honestly worried about the rest of my stay until Friday. I don’t know how I will manage meals or enjoy my time here when the basic standards of a luxury hotel are not met.
This experience is far below what I expected from a property like The Peninsula.
Edit/Additional Note to My Review:
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Ms. Sohee Kim, Assistant Director of Rooms, who personally welcomed me, apologized for the inconvenience, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire stay. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care truly made me feel at home.
Thank you for the warm, thoughtful hospitality — it made a big difference."

"Great hotel! We only stayed for one night but had a lovely visit. The views from the rooftop bar (Peter: the bar) are amazing though as you would expect, the place is very busy in the evenings.
Breakfast was a little hectic but the staff are so friendly and attentive that it doesn't detract from the experience too much. The hotel's location is perfect and who doesn't fall in love with the vintage Rolls Royce parked at the front of the hotel? The bell-staff / doormen were super friendly and helpful.
The rooms were comfortable and met our needs, even if they surprisingly felt a little dated. The beds are very comfortable!"

"We had a wonderful 3 night stay as a couple with a 10 months baby.
Starting from arrival to the end of the trip, the Peninsula Tokyo has exceeded our expectations. Every little detail of the experience is curated and thought out, making sure to answer every need of the guests.
The concierge service was phenomenal.. They've helped us reserve and coordinate multiple services and restaurants prior to our arrival, making sure all of the details are figured out for us and communicating everything in detail.
The room service was great, offering amazing food options for babies (unseasoned and healthy) and high restaurant quality options for adults.
The Lobby restaurant was out of this world, while the food is great, the staff made our 10 months old feel like a first class citizen, catering to her every need/want.
The spa experience was really great.
The location is amazing, very walkable but also far away from the Tokyo craziness.
I can't say a single bad word about the entire stay, 10/10 would recommend and will surely come back again."
