Tonkatsu Marugo is celebrated for its exceptionally tender and flavorful tonkatsu, featuring a perfectly crisp panko crust. Diners rave about the high quality of the meat and the delicious accompanying dishes, all served in a cozy atmosphere with impeccable service. The main drawback is the significant wait time due to its immense popularity.
"Absolutely delicious. We got a recommendation for this spot from a local here and we’re glad we took the advice! My partner and I split a filet meal and the prawn meal. The meat was juicy and perfect. We could tell this was a local / long standing establishment and were so grateful that they took us so close to closing time. The service was fast and efficient and you can tell that the team truly cares for each and every guest. As a business owner myself, I love this level of care and it goes a long way. Definitely check out this spot if you’re staying in the Akihabara area!"

Delicious Tonkatsu in central Akihabara. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant - it was extremely homey with beautiful tables. The Tonkatsu here was also delicious, especially for the price.
The Food:
Tonkatsu Marugo supplies high quality Tonkatsu at an affordable price. I'm generally someone who prefer Rosu over Hire, so I've ordered the prime rosu sets both times. The meat was tender and delicious - not of the absolute highest quality, but still very good.
The panko/batter used a large crumb with a relatively thicker batter which results in a satisfying crunch with delicious flavor. The pork was cooked well - with the meat being tender and juicy. One thing I noticed was that because they use parchment paper underneath the Tonkatsu rather than a grate - it does start to get a bit soggy by the time you reach the last pieces.
The Experience:
The interior consists of two levels with the main kitchen being on the first floor. During both of my visits, I've sat upstairs which has multiple tables including a beautiful natural wood table that can seat multiple parties. The service here was impeccable - with the lady who served us being really kind and willing to answer any questions we had. There always tends to be a wait here - but the line moves at a steady pace. Both times I visited I only had to wait 15 - 20 minutes before getting seated, which isn't bad at all.
Overall:
Tonkatsu Marugo is a great option for those seeking delicious Tonkatsu meal. The service is wonderful, the restaurant is beautiful, and the food is great."

"I ordered the Prime Cut Fillet Tonkatsu (特上ヒレかつ) set with rice, miso soup, and pickles, and it was absolutely outstanding. This was without a doubt one of the best tonkatsu meals I have ever had, easily among my top three. The meat was incredibly tender and juicy, with a perfect texture and just the right seasoning. The breading was exceptional, crisp and light but never greasy, and full of flavor.
The sauces served with the dish were fantastic and paired beautifully with both the meat and the fresh shredded cabbage. The miso soup was also remarkable, slightly darker in color and rich in flavor with tofu and mushrooms, which made it unique and delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked and sticky, complementing the tonkatsu wonderfully. Every element of the meal felt carefully prepared and balanced.
The service was excellent. The staff were very polite and attentive, and I was served complimentary tea before and after the meal, which added a lovely touch. You can even see the chefs cooking, which gives the place a sense of authenticity and care.
The ambiance was elegant and warm, perfectly matching the quality of the food. Everything was on spot, organized, and refined. This restaurant clearly takes pride in its craft. There was a long line, but it was well worth the wait.
If you are in Akihabara, this is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves tonkatsu. It is a complete and deeply satisfying dining experience."
