What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently impressed by the dramatic scale and beauty of the Byobugaura Cliffs, often comparing them favorably to the White Cliffs of Dover. The accessibility from Choshi Marina and the availability of free parking are frequently praised. While some note the lack of extensive facilities beyond restrooms, the natural grandeur and geological significance make it a worthwhile visit for those seeking unique coastal landscapes.
"At first, I tried to go from near Iioka Fishing Port, but a local person told me that the footing was poor from that direction, so it would be better to go from Choshi Marina. There is a promenade from the coast of Choshi Marina, so it was safe to see. There were still beachgoers there, so there were beach huts and it was lively, but other than that, it was just an open space with only toilets. There were magnificent geological formations stretching all along the coastline."

"I often visit Choshi City, and had only vaguely seen Byobugaura from afar, so I decided to drop in.
There is free parking next to the beach.
It wasn't very noticeable from a distance, but up close it was much more impressive than I expected.
Explanations of the geological strata are written here and there, so I was able to figure out which layer was which and what era it belonged to.
I didn't have time, so I was only able to see a small part of it, but the cliffs stretch for 10 kilometers, and the highest point is apparently 60 meters high.
I definitely recommend seeing it from up close if you visit Choshi City."
