"Visited in April 2015.
The following is from the Nishi Ward website.
During the Kamakura period, after the Bun'ei War (1274), when the Mongols invaded, the Mongol fortification was a stone castle built on the coast about 20 km along Hakata Bay from Imazu to Kashii in preparation for another invasion. It is said that the area was allocated to nine countries in Kyushu, and it was built in just six months using a special construction method using farmers as workers.
At the time of construction, they were piled up to a height of about 3 meters, and now about 200 meters have been restored and maintained within the pine forest and can be visited. There is also a rest exhibition facility in the nearby plaza, where you can view videos and panel materials."
