What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the tranquil atmosphere and historical Edo-period carvings at Chojasan Shinra Shrine, finding it a peaceful escape. However, the steep, stone-paved slope leading to the shrine can be a challenging aspect for some. The availability of parking and restrooms is noted as a convenience.
"I came across this shrine while leisurely strolling through the streets of Hachinohe one morning. In the clear morning air and silence, the sounds of birdsong and trees swaying in the breeze echoed pleasantly.
It was originally built in 1678 by the second lord of the Hachinohe domain, Nanbu Naomasa, to pray for the protection of his domain. The intricate carvings in the main hall and worship hall retain a strong Edo-period charm, and the shrine has been designated a prefectural treasure.
I enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere of the shrine, nestled peacefully in the dignified air. It's especially quiet in the morning, making it the perfect time to take photos and pray. It's a lovely place to stop by on your morning stroll and find peace."

"A short walk from downtown Hachinohe. However, it was a steep slope from the torii gate to the main shrine. The old road was a slope full of stones. When you reach the top of the slope, you will be greeted by cherry blossoms. The deities enshrined at Shilla Shrine are Sutomeison and Shinra Saburo Minamoto no Yoshimitsu. This shrine was founded by Naomasa, the second lord of southern Hachinohe. It is a formal shrine."
