Reviews Summary

Visitors find Kiga Castle Ruins to be an affordable and historically significant site, offering a glimpse into Edo period Japan. The restored checkpoint buildings and interactive experiences like costume dressing are highlights, though some compare it less favorably to other historical barriers. The friendly locals and the adjacent roadside station add to the charm of this small-town Japanese experience.

"It's all "Taigah Drama" crazy around here and the locals are quick to take advantage of all the hype and rightfully so. Kiga and Hosoe-cho in general, are beautiful places to visit and explore. The people are all incredibly friendly. If you're looking for a small town Japan experience, this would be it. The displays at the checkpoint are accurate for the period and accurately reflect the days of when the old highway would run through this area and travellers would be inspected and also have a place to stop and rest. The Imperial family used to come down this way for summer fishing trips many years ago and has special memories for them."

"Great Japanese history architecture"

"There is an entrance fee of 200 yen (purchased at the shop), but I think it is cheap considering the preservation costs as a cultural property. There is also a small roadside station where you can purchase local vegetables and souvenirs."
