Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Tanekura Hamlet's authentic rural charm and the exceptional hospitality of host Shinji-san. The hands-on soba making, insightful village tours, and delicious local cuisine are consistently highlighted as memorable experiences. While the natural beauty and tranquility are major draws, some guests note that rooms can be cold during cooler months, advising visitors to pack accordingly.

"We are a group of four American adults who spent three nights at Tanekura Inn in August 2025. We would all like to sing the praises of Tanekura Inn. The futons and rooms were comfortable. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious.

However, we would like to draw the attention of prospective guests to some aspects of Tanekura Inn that make it special.

1) The host, Shinji-san, was attentive to our individual needs and desires. We started our stay with “Shinji Sensei” giving us a hands-on lesson in how to make soba from scratch. Within an hour, we had all developed a new perspective on noodles. Two days later, he led us on a tour of herbs and other plants growing in the village of Tanekura.

2) Staying at Tanekura Inn in the laid-back, mountainous countryside of Gifu Prefecture gave us a fuller Japanese experience than if we had limited our stays just to big cities."

Laurence Wiig

"We had a great time during our two nights at Tanekura Inn! Shinji-san made sure everything was amazing, the views were impeccable and the whole Inn was beautiful. We slept on futons on tatami, looked at mountains during breakfast and made our own soba noodles with the help of Shinji-san. All of the food we had was terrific. It was an amazing experience, would highly recommend!"

Roos van Eeden

"Amazing place. Outside the big cities, the traffic and people's noise. Shinji the host is so nice and calm and the food is authentic and delicious.
Really recommended!"
