Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Mount Shosha for its tranquil atmosphere, beautiful ancient temple complex, and scenic ropeway ride. Many highlight its connection to 'The Last Samurai' and the peaceful, spiritual ambiance. Some note that while the temple is beautiful, it can be a bit of a walk between the main halls.

"Nice walk. You will find 3 halls the Daikodo (Great Lecture Hall) with the Jogyodö (Circumambulatory Hall), the Jikido (Refectory) before reaching here and The last samurai was acted here especially in the Jikido (Refectory). Historically, the Jikido was a residential space where monks studied, slept, and took their meals."

Home Kitchen

"One of my favourite visits in the area for its nice green area and tranquility. Also liked the views from cable car access. Had a snack at the small cafe opposite the edifice, which was nice."

Amar

"This was an amazing experience. I took the bus from the Himeji Station, then the ropeway to the top. I expected it to be full of people, but there was only a small number visiting. Many were older Japanese who seemed Buddhist as they were praying and getting books signed by the monks there. It was so peaceful and felt quite spiritual. The cedars are very attractive and many of them are quite old - about 800 years. I was there for about 2 hours but could easily have stayed longer."
