Unexpectedly spending a few days in Kagoshima. What to do?
I was supposed to go to Yakushima, but I got to Kagoshima and all the ferries were cancelled due to a typhoon. Can anyone recommend stuff to do in Kagoshima for a few days? Is there any good hiking over on Sakurajima? (preferably under tree cover, because it's 35C here)

Reviews Summary
Mount Kaimon offers a challenging yet rewarding hike with stunning summit views. While the consistent uphill climb and rocky terrain require good fitness and proper footwear, the panoramic vistas make the effort worthwhile. Some visitors found the summit misty, obscuring the view, and noted the intense heat during summer months.
"adventures hike with a beautiful 360 view from the top.
all tho they write, it takes 5,5 hours to the top and back for experienced hikers, it took me only around 3,25 hours and i’m not too experienced.
however hiking is not a racing sport and should be taken serious.
the upper part gets quite difficult, with some boulders, which have to be overcome.
it’s gets tiring and therefore specially the way down increases risk of slipping and hurting once leg, or a foot.
but there are many seniors, of maybe 65 years and older, going up. they are experienced hikers tho. so it’s definitely doable and a great adventure."

"This is a pretty challenging mountain for hiking. The trail starts pretty much from the bottom, leading to its peak at 924m. The total hiking distance is about 7-8 km.
If you are attempting to hike up and down the mountain trail, be prepared to spend 5-6 hours up and down. And proper hiking boots or footwear should be worn. Do not be fooled by the naysayers, saying that this mountain is an easy feat and come with your sports shoes or normal walking shoes.
There is also a warning at the start of the trail advising even for experienced climbers, to start in the mornings and during winter, avoid starting the hike up in the afternoons as there may not be sufficient time for ascent and descent before the sun sets.
So come prepared with the right gears, and enjoy the mountains."

"Nice shape for a mountain and can be seen from many places around so it's a nice sight from almost anywhere nearby. On a clear day the view from the top isn't nice, too. The trail is rugged so the signs say it takes 5.5 hours for an experienced hiker from the trailhead and back. I made it in about 3.5 hours from the parking lot with a long stop on the top. So it's really up to your fitness and how much experience you have with similar terrain."
